Evaluating DotNetNuke Framework (7.x) Installation decisions

DNN Advantages

DotNetNuke programming allows for various custom development options when evaluating a solid, flexible framework for your online project. How you go about installing an instance of the DotNetNuke Framework 7.x, and the procedures you follow, will depend on the knowledge and comfort level you currently have, or have on staff. We have created a few tips on installing custom dotnetnuke modules in the article below.

The DotNetNuke framework is a powerful microsoft .net based platform used for more than 750,000 websites globally. Given the huge variety of systems these sites use, before installing DNN 7.x frameworks, you should ensure you are up to date with current system installation requirements. DotNetNuke 7.x’s release brings in new system parameters. You can find a list of those requirements here.

DotNetNuke Programming Scenarios

There are two DNN programming scenarios outlined on DNN Corporation’s website located here, which explain step by step how to install DNN 7.x, so we won’t regurgitate their expert guidance here. It’s useful to know how you could be affected if thinking on moving to DotNetNuke's framework or thinking about a DotNetNuke upgrade.

For example, there is one set of guidelines involving sql servers 2005 / 2008 / 2008r2 / 2012 express with user instance databases, with variations for systems using Windows 7 and Windows 2008R2 using IIS 7.5. The second installation scenario involves programming DotNetNuke using sql server 2005 / 2008 / 2008r2 / 2012 or express edition with attached database. So you will need to make a determination on which is better suited in your environment. For larger scall DotNetNuke web applications, we recommend user instance databases isolated on a separate server.

With 20 steps, you are closer to providing the architecture you will need to more recent versions of DNN and safeguarding your company’s web based assets. There may be questions among users about whether the web form modules will continue to be supported with future upgrades to this architecture, but DNN Corp is telling developers that even though they want to move away from these, developers will still have the choice to employ them if preferred. This will appeal to a wide range od DotNetNuke developers.

Despite versions 8 and 9 already being here, no doubt IT project managers and developers will be still bringing out of date web architecture up to date, as technological enhancement continues apace to offer easier, faster and cheaper solutions for decision making IT personnel.

If reading instructions is too slow for you, the DotNetNuke Corporation do have a video library available for programmers, including guidance on installing DotNetNuke located here. If you still have questions, 13 Below Consulting is committed to offering advice, support, training and talent provision to ensure your DotNetNuke web development experience is smooth and satisfying.
